About: The Naturalis series of magazines were published as individual numbered editions of 2000, printed on (GF Smith) Naturalis paper. This limited edition (No.1883) publication profiles Swiss typographer Bruno Maag. Naturalis x7 was printed on a Heidelberg 102 12 colour press; printed alcohol free using a combination of 7 fluorescent, hexachrome and transparent specials.
(Foreword) "Every good typeface library needs a wide variety of styles, from expressive handwriting fonts to sobre designs that can be used in many versatile ways. Although we already have a number of sans designs in the Dalton Maag Exclusives library, it seriously lacked a hardcore grotesk, one that knocks the socks off the competition. But the competition is tough with well-known names and newcomers alike. For this reason we wanted Aktiv Grotesk to be pure, and free from historical baggage. We conceptualized Aktiv Grotesk to be as versatile as possible, with little personality so it can simply blend with other design elements. We also wished for a grotesk font that is as free from imperfections as possible. An example of this is that the oblique designs are refined to avoid any of the distortions that result from electronic slanting. The result of months of exploration and refinement is Aktiv Grotesk in four weights plus matching obliques. It is a truly modernistic design that captures the ideology of Swiss typography by doing away with superfluous curves and terminals.
