(Foreword) Following photography and video, the Centro di Documentazione di Palazzo Fortuny is embracing a new field of research becoming increasingly important in the world of visual communications - graphic design. This exhibition provides a well illustrated cross-section of Californian design, in the forefront in the United States, and demonstrates, along with technical and artistic evolution, connections with industrial design, architecture, photography, video and fashion. Alongside the exhibition itself there are workshops held by three of the most representative Californian graphic designers: April Greiman, John Hersey and John Casado. Designed to approach existing visual communications research and trends on a theoretic and practical level, this exhibition is particularly stimulating both for the general public and for professionals, as is the tradition of exhibitions and culture of the Centro di Palazzo Fortuny. Senator Mario Rigo, Councillor for Cultural Activities
