Anderson's life-long interest in advertising line art. As a child in the early 60's, he first developed a fascination with the illustrations found in little ads in the back of comic books featuring magical products like X-ray specs, miniature spy cameras, and life-size monsters. It was the kind of stuff drawn by some average Joe down at the shop who happened to be handy with a pen. It is this "undesigned" vernacular quality that makes the images so appealing.

While still in high school in the early 70's, Anderson met a retired commercial artist named Clyde Lewis. Clyde had spent his entire career drawing advertising cuts for everything from matchbooks to menus, all done freehand with a brush including the lettering. He not only introduced Charles to the illustration style, he left him stacks of his original work which was the starting point of the Archive.

Although it was originally intended for his personal use, by 1987 the Archive had grown to the point that Anderson decided to formally organize the illustrations into a stock library for outside use. That launched an eight-year mission involving dozens of artists, tens of thousands of hours, and gallons of India Ink to complete the first edition CSA Archive Book. In order to enter the digital age, another two years were spent to painstakingly digitize and refine the collection without losing the hand-drawn quality of the original illustrations. In 1995, CSA Images was organized as a separate company from Charles S. Anderson Design to concentrate on creating stock illustration and photography collections, as well as the licensing of images for use on retail products.'

Condition: Very Good.
