(Preface) 'The Book of Numbers is the result of a collaboration between Herbert Spencer and his sixteen-year old daughter, Mafalda. Herbert Spencer RDI DrRCA is a practising designer and a Senior Research Fellow at the Royal College of Art in London where he heads a unit conducting research into the legibility of print. He is the author or editor of many books on typography and graphic design subjects and has also published one book of photographs. Mafalda Spencer is interested in graphics and is, like her father, a keen photographer.'
