FUSE was a revolutionary quarterly publication launched in the summer of 1991 by acclaimed British graphic designer Neville Brody and editor Jon Wozencroft, in collaboration with FontShop International. Far from a conventional magazine, it functioned as an "interactive project" or "virtual atelier" that challenged the boundaries of typography, visual language, and digital design during the early era of personal computing and desktop publishing. Published until 2000, FUSE explored themes like runes, electromagnetism, virtual typography, disinformation, and secrets.

Each issue arrived in a recyclable cardboard box; containing a floppy disk that holds four avant-garde PostScript or TrueType fonts created by guest designers around a thematic brief; x4 A2 posters, demonstrating the fonts in provocative layouts and showcasing their potential in graphic contexts; a booklet that held essays, interviews, and articles by contributors like Brody, exploring typography's cultural role.

FUSE 8: Religion; invited exploration of dogma, ritual, and spirituality in graphic form, blending reverence with irreverence. Contributors were tasked with creating fonts and visuals that evoked religious motifs—think gothic arches, illuminated manuscripts, or fragmented icons—while subverting them for modern discourse. Essays in the accompanying booklet examined typography's role in propaganda and belief systems, drawing parallels between ancient scripts and emerging digital fonts. As Brody noted in retrospectives, FUSE aimed to "fuse" historical forms with technological disruption, making Religion a commentary on how design propagates (or profanes) ideology.
