(Preface) 'It is virtually impossible to show the full scope of an enterprising typefounder's resources in any book weighing less than a few score pounds. Consider for a moment the area of paper required to show, to the interested printer, the full potentialities of, say, Caslon Old Face or Plantin, with the ability of these types for almost every aspect of book work and jobbing display. Consider again the number of pages we should want to demonstrate to the full the rich colour and weight of Playbill or Titling Face Open. And, most demanding of all, the subject of decorative units and borders would require a book in itself.
How can we possibly show all these typographic elements adequately? We cannot, so we have done the next best thing. We have made what we consider to be a careful and critical examination of the considerable material in our foundry, and here we offer a selection. In these pages you will find old favourites and recent successes, steady standbys and decorative novelties, and you may be assured that only those types which have been proved in use (and by the orders we have received!) have made the grade for inclusion.'
Condition: Good. Shelf ware consistent with age. Rubbing, tanning and marking/soiling to cover/edges of dust jacket. Light tanning to interior pages, otherwise clean.
