(Introduction) 'Since its introduction many years ago, the Nickeloid typeface specimen book has been one of the leaders in the field. The greatly increased range of types now held has led to the division of the specimen sheets into two volumes, a step taken reluctantly but inevitably. At the same time as the adoption of the two-volume system, the opportunity was taken to modify the specimens in order to increase their usefulness to customers. The purpose of this redesign, carried out by Geoffrey Lee MSIA, MSTD, is to improve and broaden the scope of the specimen books whilst retaining all the well-proved virtues of previous editions. It is hoped that these new books will be useful and valuable to typographers, designers and print users in all the fields served by Nickeloid.'
