The letters are based on inscriptional forms, inspired by those painted and engraved by the Italian Renaissance artist Andrea Mantegna (c.1431-1506). Mantegna's fascination with classical antiquity, splendidly shown in an exhibition last year, led him to be one of the first to revive Roman lettering.'
