(Preface) 'The Boundaries of the Postage Stamp examines the relationship between marketing, design management and design in the context of the Royal PTT Nederland. Since the 1920s, the PTT has had an excellent reputation for its design policy. In 1989 the PTT was privatised and a reassessment took place of the relationship between the public function of design and private corporate interests. In 1992 internal borders within the European Community ceased to exist. The Dutch PTT explored the postage stamp as an expression of national identity by commissioning designers from the EC countries for 13 special stamp issues...'
