(Foreword) 'For the fifth time I have the honour as director of the Moravian Gallery in Brno and also the director of the Brno Biennial to dedicate a few lines to the most important international event organised by our art museum. Over a sequence of twenty-five Biennials of world graphic design this constitutes merely a fifth which I have been able to influence in some way, so I never forget that we are always standing on the shoulders of giants (admitted years ago even by the very self-assured British band Oasis). More than ever before I now realiae how difficult and courageous it must have been to start this exhibition - and then to maintain its standard. The former director of the Moravian Gallery in Brno, Jiri Hlusicka, and the motor of the Biennial, Jan Rajlich Sr, Blazena Boleslavská, the Biennial secretary, Ales Najbrt, the chairman of the Board of Organisers between 2000 and 2010 who initiated the Biennial's shift towards a high-profile event reflecting the new situation in the world, Miroslava Pluháckov, my colleague and Biennial secretary, without whose affectionate address of "wee mice" the trip of the graphic designers to Brno would be incomplete - they all form the memory of this constantly adventurous undertaking...'
