(Introduction) 'Every two years the Moravian Gallery becomes synonymous with graphic design. All its short-term exhibition premises (and there are many) become devoted to this specific and ever-more-comprehensive discipline in all its visual creativity. Further, most of the operational and organisational capacity of our art museum is set to cater and care for graphic design and graphic designers. What we wish most of all is that the energy invested in the organisation of the competition exhibition, the curator exhibition (prepared this year by Rick Poynor), the symposium and the accompanying shows - mapping the "classics" of the branch, its contemporary high standards, as well as its manifold and originally fringe forms - has not been wasted but transferred to all those interested, from the organisers to the users. The Brno Biennial, of which this year marks the 24th instalment, is not only a source of infinite joy (and also, naturally, of the organisers' blood, sweat and tears) but also an obligation, for the fulfilment of which I would like to extend my thanks to my colleagues from the Moravian Gallery, the ever-more-active members of the organisation committee, the team that has lent shape to this year's Biennial, and to all who are intensely engaged in the future of the discipline...'
