(Introduction) 'When, twenty years ago, the idea to lay foundations for an international confrontation of creative achievements in the field of graphic design to be held at regular intervals originated in Brno, nobody could foresee the response this initiative would meet with in the world. It was, in a way, a leap in the dark. There was a lack of experiences, there were no contacts with corresponding artists and experts abroad and, at first, even the conception of the exhibition cycle in view was not quite clear. It turned out, however, that the lack of experiences and, consequently, only a vague idea of what the organisers would be faced with need not necessarily be an invincible obstacle in realising the challenging task if enthusiasm of those concerned can be relied upon and their readiness to help good cause succeed can be reckoned with...'
