The graphic design studio Mendell & Oberer was founded in Munich in 1961. Their work includes the development of corporate identity, advertising concepts, posters, book and packaging design, wayfinding systems, and architectural graphics. Pierre Mendell is responsible for concept and visualization, while Klaus Oberer is responsible for implementation and organization.

(Introduction/Translation) 'It's not easy to be simple. "Advertising is art." This sentence is the extreme expression of a shift in consciousness that is increasingly gaining traction among broad sections of the population. Until the 1980s, advertising, graphic design, and product design were largely uninteresting commercial auxiliary functions for the public, ignored or even despised as tools of manipulation.
In the 1980s, things changed. Suddenly, it was fashionable to talk about design with connoisseurs, like French vineyards. Ettore Sottsass, Philippe Starck, and Neville Brody became cult figures, even the arts pages talked about at length. People queued to see the Cannes reel, design exhibitions had to be closed due to overcrowding, television and the press were always there, and every self-respecting magazine had to have Neville Brody lay out at least a few pages. The boundaries between art and commerce had become thoroughly blurred, aided by the burgeoning cultural sponsorship...'
