(Preface) 'The London College of Communication is pleased to host this exhibition of fifty works by the noted British poster designer, educator and graphic communicator Tom Eckersley. As one of an emerging group of 'graphic designers' of the post-war period - which also included Abram Games, Hans Schleger and F H K Henrion - Tom Eckersley was instrumental in establishing a recognisable visual language for British poster design. His bold, graphic statements coupled with memorable slogans and unique use of colour, were seen promoting some of the most iconic of British institutions such as London Transport, General Post Office, Shell, The Ministry of Information and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA). Eckersley's graphic approach also translated well into his solutions for commissions of book jackets, magazine designs and commercial advertising campaigns with clients including British Aluminum, Motor Trade Executive, Seven Seas and Gillette.'
