(Preface) 'The purpose of Typomundus 20 was to gather, preserve and document as complete a collection as possible of the most significant typography of the twentieth century. But the entire project went far beyond this idea alone. Typomundus 20 became the first internationally judged exhibition of world typography. The exhibition was planned by the International Center for the Typographic Arts and began with a Call for Entries which was sent to 200,000 people in all fields of graphic design. 10,000 entries were received at Assembly Points in Australia, Canada, Czechoslovakia, England, Germany, Japan and the United States. From these collection points the entries were forwarded to Toronto, Canada where they were arranged for judging by the Society of Typographic Designers of Canada.'
