(Foreword) 'An important part of our strategy for the international development of the Group and its businesses is to use every opportunity to strengthen worldwide awareness of THORN EMI and what our name signifies.

This will not only benefit us by reinforcing our reputation as a successful - and very substantial - world class company, but will also help to support the growth of our operations around the world.

The performance and standing of our businesses in their markets can contribute substantially to the reputation of the Group as a whole. In order to provide a framework for accentuating the links between THORN EMI and its businesses a new visual identity system has been introduced.

The increased awareness it will bring about will impact not only on our customers, employees and suppliers, but also on those other influential groups whose favourable opinion can give impetus to our international expansion programme.

This manual covers the ways in which the visual identity should be used in different areas of application and is designed to help you to participate in the co-ordinated introduction of the scheme. I ask that everyone concerned makes full use of it in support of our strategic international growth objectives.'
