(Preface) 'Since the 1990s Lex Rietsma has set the tone for the Dutch National Opera's unique visual identity. His posters and designs for the programmes are now collectors items in themselves, and this publication presents the development of Rietsma's recognizable work and the ideas from which it sprung. The book includes two sections, the first showcasing posters and programmes designed for 84 DNO productions, while the second presents Reitsma's earlier and other work for different clients. This graphic diptych is separated by a text collage composed of quotes from fellow designers, professional literature, newspaper articles and Reitsma's own opinions.'
