(Introduction/Translation) 'When the Bauhaus Archive presented a selection of works from its collection to the Bauhaus Dessau for a few weeks in the summer of 1988, this event was sure to attract considerable attention. For the first time, Bauhaus works gathered in the West would be on display in Walter Gropius's glass-enclosed Bauhaus building, which since its construction has been considered the epitome of modernism in architecture and design. The exhibition's appeal lay not only in the fact that some of the selected objects were created there and thus temporarily returned to their place of origin.
