Beautifully produced British art journal published between 1949 and 1952. It emerged from the earlier Alphabet and Image (1946–1948), which divided into two separate periodicals: Alphabet, devoted to typography, and Image, focused exclusively on the visual arts. Across its eight issues, Image featured essays on painting, illustration, sculpture, architecture, printmaking, and book illustration, accompanied by high-quality reproductions and exemplary printing. Celebrated for its elegant design and distinguished contributors, it remains an important post-war record of British visual culture and graphic publishing.
