The goods and chattels of forty years of industrial designing have been recorded in this publication which is a product of a cooperative venture between five museums and which was published on the occasion of a series of design exhibitions organised in the summer of 1987. Never before had research been done on such a scale into the continuing story of design, industry and consumption. The common denominator was sought in the phenomenon of design in the Netherlands in a potpourri of general essays, detailed studies and documented reports.
