(About) 'This conference has been organised on a voluntary basis by members of the Type-Mark-Five committee. The Type-Mark-Five committee is an action group of concerned typographic designers: members of the Chartered Society of Designers, the Society of Typographic Designers and the Typographic Circle.'
(Foreword) 'These conferences evolved from two seminal, even if rhetorical, debates about typography. When we conceived the Windows on European Graphic Design concept in 1992 it was to look enquiringly at broader issues of contemporary graphic design. My hope with these events was to nurture a more responsive and positive attitude to design work that might be slightly outside the paradigm of our everyday experience. I believe this was achieved, particularly with the European event in 1992, and again in 1994 with the American event. With today's event we look critically at the developments the digital revolution brings to our industry. The implications are far-reaching, the speed of change phenomenal, and as we all become connected in a global nervous system, the only certainty is our need to embrace this new dimension in our culture.'
