(Foreword) 'Douglas Annand: The art of life is the first exhibition to recognise the enormous contribution of Douglas Annand to the development of Australian modernism. The exhibition could not have happened without the foresight of Tony and Suzanne Annand, who ensured that Douglas Annand's archives were placed in national cultural institutions. In 1989, Andrew Sayers, then Curator of Drawings at the National Gallery of Australia, took the initiative in negotiating with the Annand family and selected the extensive and diverse collection from which this exhibition is mostly drawn. The National Gallery holds much of Annand's art-related material, while the Powerhouse Museum holds the design archive...'
