(Foreword) 'In 1982 The Copenhagen Region Transport Co., HT, introduced design as a tool for the management of the enterprise. Results so far include the introduction of new route maps, guidelines for the stationery of HT, a new bright yellow colour for the buses, guidelines for the interior design of the buses, new uniforms and very recently, the introduction of a new trademark for HT.

While other results have been achieved through the collaboration of HT and one or two design consultants, the new trademark was selected by means of a design competition. The competition was announced in the spring of 1985, in cooperation with the Danish Design Council. The results were published in July, and in August 1985 The Greater Copenhagen Council decided to introduce the 1st Prize proposal as the new trademark for HT.

This book follows the trademark project from the announcement of the design competition, through the selection of the prize-winning proposals, to the preparation of the first draft for how and where the new trademark should be applied. The guidelines for the use of the trademark will ultimately be defined in the programme for HT's visual identity now being planned in collaboration with the designers of the new trademark.

HT's work with design is an on-going process, the results of which will become visible in all parts of the enterprise during the years to come.

The overall purpose of working with design is to add a seal of quality both to the HT product, public transportation, and to its many forms of communications. And further more, to generate a sense of the coherence of the HT organization, both internally and externally.'
