In 1995, Paul Stiff launched Typography Papers at the University of Reading’s Department of Typography & Graphic Communication. Intended as a forum for rigorous, detailed writing on typography and related disciplines, Stiff edited most volumes, with Christopher Burke, Sue Walker, and Robin Kinross editing volumes 3 and 4. Described as a “continuing-but-not-annual” series, it sought to expand typography’s scope, defining it as “designing language for reading” beyond mere printing.
