(Preface) 'This is the 32nd issue of MODERN PUBLICITY. With more colour pages than ever—48-there is a total of 176 editorial pages filled with international advertising. For the first time there is a section on design style carried through several components of a campaign-e.g. the poster-letterhead and direct mail piece-additional to the main categories: Posters/Showcards, Press/magazine advertising, Packaging/trademarks/ letterheads, Record covers, Direct mail/invitations. This year, too, there are editorial features, important for those professionally concerned with advertising. From Switzerland Erwin Halpern, whose Atelier produces some of the world's finest press advertising, views world publicity. In a second editorial Maurice Rickards asks the designer 'Whose Side Are You On?' Mr. Rickards, past Chairman of the Publicity Design Group of the Society of Industrial Artists, sympathises with the difficulties (of the artist) but sees that duty (to the advertiser) must be unquestioned. The illustrations-the raison d'être of Modern Publicity-make it an indispensable work of reference and source of ideas throughout the world. They are again present in profusion: over 700 items from twenty-eight countries are included.'

Modern Publicity, Art & Industry's International Annual of Advertising Art was a highly influential annual publication that showcased the best in international advertising art from the 1920s through the 1980s. Published by The Studio Publications (later Studio Vista) in London and New York, it served as a critical resource for advertisers, artists, designers, and industry professionals by presenting a curated selection of outstanding commercial art from around the world. Initially titled Posters and Publicity and earlier Posters and Their Designers (starting in 1924), it evolved into Modern Publicity by 1930, reflecting a broader focus on various forms of advertising beyond just posters, including press advertisements, direct mail, packaging, showcards, brochures, and trademarks.
