"The Image: Graphic Arts Photography" was a short-lived, award-winning British monthly magazine (1972–1974) founded, designed, and edited by David Litchfield through his Baroque Press in London, with David Bailey as a consultant/editorial figure in some issues; it focused on innovative intersections of graphic arts, illustration, and photography, featuring prominent contributors like photographers, artists, and occasional high-profile names (e.g., work by or related to Terry O'Neill, Linda McCartney, and others in the creative scene).

Contents:

  • Edward Bell (front cover) Born in Middlesex 1950. Educated at Haileybury went on to study Graphic Design first at Brighton, then at Chelsea Art School. He hopes to become a fashion photographer. His photographs appeared as end papers in issue 6.
  • Jan Mark (inside cover) Jan Mark was born in Montreal, Quebec, 1949. Attended Grammar School and High Schools and learned how to draw behind the teachers backs during this period. Worked for a time in a commercial art studio in Montreal. Arrived in London September 1972 and is now working as a freelance illustrator.
  • John Schlesinger (pages 4-9)
  • Donald Hounam (pages 10-13) Born in Cardiff in 1948. Studied Mediaeval History at St. Andrews. At present working on thesis - Apocalyptic History of the Middle Ages. Working as illustrator on a book of poems for David Bower.
  • Patrick Lichfield (pages 14-19) Born in London in 1939. Educated at Harrow, and R.M.A. Sandhurst. Spent five years in the Grenadier guards then took up photography. Now works freelance.
  • Christine Roche (pages 20-25) Born in Montreal Canada 1939. Studied at Art School, and then went on a three year trip around the States and worked in New York. Came to England - Did a one year course in Typography. At present she is working in an animation studio as well as painting. She would like to find a gallery in England to exhibit her work.
  • Hans Wallner (pages 36-37)
  • Bob Gale (pages 4647) See issue seven.
  • Doris Thomas (pages 40-45) Born in London 1948. She has lived most of her life in Wales. Went to three art schools, Croydon, Wimbledon and the Royal College of Art. At present on a scholarship at Vogue magazine she is also looking for freelance work.
