"The Image: Graphic Arts Photography" was a short-lived, award-winning British monthly magazine (1972–1974) founded, designed, and edited by David Litchfield through his Baroque Press in London, with David Bailey as a consultant/editorial figure in some issues; it focused on innovative intersections of graphic arts, illustration, and photography, featuring prominent contributors like photographers, artists, and occasional high-profile names (e.g., work by or related to Terry O'Neill, Linda McCartney, and others in the creative scene).

Contents:

  • John Howard (pages 4-9) was born in Hammersmith, London in 1940. His recent unsuccessful exhibitions include one in Berlin and Art Spectrum in London.
  • Byron Newman (see pages 10-15).
  • Jillie Hurd (pages 10-15) was born in Kensington in 1954. She works for the Petal agency and has been modelling since she was 14.
  • Graham Rogers (pages 36-41) was born in Birmingham in 1937 and studied at Birmingham College of Art. He has been in advertising and films (he art directed the Beatles, "Magical Mystery Tour'), Spent some time working in France, and is now primarily a freelance illustrator.
  • Homer Sykes (pages 22-25) was born in Vancouver, Canada in 1949. His work has recently been featured in Four Young Photographers' at The Photographers® Gallery and in 'Personal Views 1850-1970'; a British Council travelling exhibition.
  • David Shanahan (pages 26-31) was born in Kingston-upon-Thames in 1941, Studied fine art at Kingston College of Art. Is at present working in Cornwall.
  • Darcilio Lima (pages 32-35) was born in Ceara, Brazil in 1944. self-taught he has deen drawing since the age of 9. He is one of Brazil's leading artists and is currently in Europe on a two-year travelling scholarship. (Salao Nacional De Arte Moderna Grande Premio). The Archer Gallery handles his work in this country.
  • David Davis (pages 42-47) was born in Cardiff, Wales in 1945. He studied at Leicester College of Art. He is at present on a gift scholarship at Yale University School of Art and Architecture.
  • Paul Winter (pages 6-21) was born in Sheffield in 1950. He studied graphics at Sheffield College of Art and Birmingham College of Art. He lives in Highgate, London and describes himself as a freelance graphic designer and mystic.
  • David Remiry (front cover) was born in Worthing in 1942. Studied at Hull College of Art. He has been making a living (more or less) painting ever since. We will be featuring more of his work in the next issue.
