(Foreword) Construction and Geometry in Painting is an effort to review one major facet of abstract art which originated two generations ago and continues vigorously to this day we hope that this survey covering almost fifty years of plastic thinking in constructive and geometric terms will bring about a deeper understanding of this style of painting and its meaning for contemporary civilization. Like most fundamental and integral ideas this style has no geographical boundaries and cannot be explained solely on a national basis. It belongs to the world. While it has already become part of history, together with other styles of the past, it goes on as a creative force in the present.
