(Preface) 'The Directors of Marlborough Fine Art Limited wish to offer their sincere thanks to Professor Will Grohmann who responded so favourably to the idea of this exhibition and who is responsible for compiling the catalogue as well as the exhibition as a whole. They also acknowledge the invaluable help of Fräulein Annemarie Zilz. They are also indebted to the Bauhaus-Archiv, of Darmstadt, which has provided documentary material for the catalogue. Finally they would like to express their warmest gratitude to the many collectors, both in Europe and in America, who have so generously lent their pictures to this exhibition. They are particularly grateful to the families of the artists, Madame Nina Kandinsky, Frau Tut Schlemmer and Herr Felix Klee for their important contributions and to Professor Itten and Professor Albers who have both lent examples of their work. Since many of the collectors wish to remain anonymous, the names of all have been omitted from this catalogue.'
