(Introduction) 'What is good design? The question has been asked again and again. So far the concept has defied definition. So many criteria are involved: economy, function, aesthetic. Viewpoints clash between the designer, producer, consumer.
But oddly enough we almost invariably know what we think of a given product in a set situation. No definitions are needed then. Things speak for themselves.
When the Society of Industrial Design created the ID Prize in 1965, it not only wished to express appreciation for the better contributions to Danish product development and design. It also wished to give the good products an opportunity to speak for themselves.
In this booklet The Society presents the 23 products awarded the ID Prize in the years 1965-1969, and hopes that these examples can relate something about the content and perspectives of good industrial design.'
