(Preface) 'Design for Life is a textbook, both for designers and for those who think they are designers. In addition, it is a good gift for the many who have absolutely no awareness of the things around us. Per Mollerup is a gifted instructor when he examines tools for survival, play and vanity, and provokes reflection by scrutinizing our surroundings.

The book is in many ways reminiscent of Steen Eiler Rasmussen's 'British Applied Art' from 1933. That book, too, was based on photographs from a world that was far from the fine art circles of that time. And by pointing out the values of experience to be found in functional forms and good craftswork, Steen Eiler Rasmussen opened our eyes to a new view of the beautiful and the good.'
