(Preface) ''Ladybird by Design' charts a century of iconic children's publishing.

In 1915 the Ladybird logo was registered by Loughborough printer Wills & Hepworth, who used downtime on their printing presses to experiment with producing wholesome illustrated books for children.

Now, 100 years of iconic Ladybird books later, Lawrence Zeegen explores the design decisions and illustration influences behind the classic titles. Starting with the company's early days and then moving through the 'golden age' of 1950-1970 to the innovative publishing of today, this is both a design retrospective and social history of the last century as explored through the lens of the Ladybird world.'
