(Preface) 'Play is the principal business of childhood, More and more, in recent years, research has shown the vital importance of play in the development of a human being. From earliest infancy, every child needs ample opportunity and the right material for play.
Toys are the tools of play; their function is to suggest, encourage and assist play. To succeed in this they must be good toys, toys which children play with constantly, and will come back to over and over again. It is our aim to supply such toys.
We are encouraged by the fact that every year more and more of our toys and play materials are used, not only in the home, but by playgroups and infant schools whose teachers have a better opportunity than anyone else to observe toys in constant use by many different kinds of children. If our toys succeed in this test we know they are good toys.
