(Introduction) 'The first edition of Marks, Symbols and Logotypes, covering the years 1973-1975, came out in 1976 twenty years ago. At the time we wondered if readers would buy it, but we've come this far. Along the way the title has changed, too. And it's still a long and troublesome title to say, in its entirety. So just what number edition is this one going to be? At some point along the way color publications took the forefront; everything included, this makes the fourteenth edition.
