(Preface) 'Ivan Chermayeff has been making collages for almost 50 years and as a designer has been a partner of Chermayeff & Geismar since 1956. He is a Benjamin Franklin Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and a visiting Professor at Cooper Union and the Kansas City Art Institute. He also was a member of the Board of the Museum of Modern Art for 20 years and is a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale. He is a past president of the American Institute of Graphic Arts and was elected to the New York Art Directors Club Hall of Fame. Chermayeff was given retrospective exhibitions of his collages by the Corcoran Museum of Art and the Addison Gallery of American Art. He is represented by the Ricco-Maresca Gallery in New York. His drawers are crammed with found objects: mail envelopes received, used airlines carbons, squashed soda cans, postcards and posters.'
