(Introduction) 'It has been said of design that if it needs explanation, it has failed to communicate its message. Although this notion appears to be becoming increasingly obsolete, it might still be useful to know a few things about the graduating year of 1998 before looking through this publication.
To begin with, there are 147 of us, many of whom are showing work in the following pages. This represents the largest graduating year this college has seen. Trying to reconcile every one of us with one all-encompassing design ethic would be wholly inappropriate. Therefore, whichever way this book is designed, there will invariably be 146 reasons why it cannot perfectly represent in every way shape or form those it was designed for...'
