(Introduction) 'The graphic design course at Central Saint Martins has evolved out of the former 'rival' colleges, 'The Central' and St. Martin's, and has built on the strengths of each. Within the widest possible definition of design, students are encouraged to explore and discover their own visual language.

This approach has fuelled the typography of the designers whose work makes up this exhibition. Together, they have made a significant contribution to the well-being and vibrancy of current British typography.

The exhibition contains work produced during their formative college years, as well as that produced in the so-called real world afterwards. It covers the experimental as well as the traditional, the personal as well as the applied.

The work is engaging, questioning, positive and always forward-looking: It is a celebration of a catholic approach to art education, and a statement of this college's intent for the future.' Phil Baines & Graham Wood, Curators, August 1992
