(Introduction) 'The type-face known nowadays as 'Plantin', demonstrated in this broadsheet, was modelled on a type shown in the catalogue published by the Museum in 1896 entitled Specimen Characterum Architypographiae Plantinianae. Later studies have proved that the type was not used by Plantin himself; it must have been added to the collection since his day. So this popular design has no direct connection with Plantin, but it does keep before us the name of one of the greatest figures in typographic history.'
