(Preface) 'Advertising today has become so much a part of our daily lives, and so complex in its manifestations, that we need an occasional pause for thought about it: about what it has so far accomplished, what recent progress has been made, and what the advertising practitioner in one land might borrow to advantage from his confreres in another.
