(Preface) 'Graphic design practices, those who commission work from them, and all those studying graphic arts subjects need to have within easy reach a copy of this reference book. It has been compiled by an experienced graphic designer with the needs of fellow professionals in mind.

The volume offers definitions and explanations of 2800 terms used in typography, printing, computer graphics, publishing, photography, film animation and associated fields of interest. Over 320 illustrations are included to reinforce the entries where necessary, many of them specially prepared for this work. Entries are fully cross-referenced, and particular attention is given to the difference in usage between US and UK terms.

This is a completely revised and expanded edition in a large format of a work which was first published in Britain in 1980 under the title Illustrated graphics glossary.
