(Introduction/Translation) 'The Dutch Postage Stamp and Public Opinion - In "Nederlandse Postzegels" (Dutch Postage Stamps) in 1970, the desire was expressed to know the general public's opinion on Dutch postage stamps [H. J. A. M. van Haaren: De vormgeving van de Nederlandse Postzegels]. The survey announced in that article took place around the turn of the year 1970/1971. As far as we know, a survey designed for this purpose, aimed at the entire user group, is unique. A somewhat similar study was conducted in Switzerland in 1970.
During an exhibition of postage stamp designs, the visitors' opinions on these designs were gathered in a survey format. It is questionable to what extent the opinions of visitors to such an exhibition are representative of the opinion of the average person. The number of philatelists among the visitors was almost twice as high as the number of non-collectors, and moreover, the mere fact of visiting the exhibition cannot deny that non-collectors have a certain level of involvement with the subject, which will cause their opinions to differ from the average...'
