(Publishers overview) 'The exhibition A Century of Posters covers an overview of the poster as a mass medium of visual messages and highlights the tasks of graphic design in the 20th century in Slovenia. The exhibition presents around 200 posters by more than 80 authors. The majority of the material comes from the MAO collections, but some also comes from Slovenian libraries, museums, state archives and private collections.
The creation of the modern poster, which as a combination of images and text established new ways of visual communication already in the 19th century, was first joined in our region at the beginning of the 20th century by already educated painters or architects, such as Janez Jager, Rihard Jakopič, Gvidon Birolla, Ivan Vavpotič, Maksim Gaspari and Saša Šantel. Between the two wars, the typological diversity of posters was first manifested more clearly – especially market posters and tourist posters expanded, and their role in the field of culture also increased with authors Janko Omahn, Domicijan Serajnik, Petar Kocjančič, Janez Trpin, Gojmir Anton Kos...'
