(Preface) 'In 1983, Total Design, the first multidisciplinary Dutch industrial design studio, celebrated its 20th anniversary. Frank Tiesing seized the opportunity to launch a series of Total Design exhibitions at his De Beyerd art center in Breda (later shown at Eindhoven POC, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and the Zonnehof in Amersfoort). To underscore the significance of twenty years of this kind of design, Tiesing also took the initiative to publish a book. Kees Broos authored 'Ontwerp: Total Design'. This book was more than just a chronicle of twenty years of industrial design; it was itself a manifestation of a turning point.
