(Preface) 'The first animated cartoons were mostly content to tell a funny story in visual terms, and few realised that the graphic arts were here entering a new dimension. Today many artists of talent are becoming aware that the animated film offers an enormous new field of action for the creative imagination, opening up a realm that has many parallels with music.
Few books so far published have approached the animated film from the viewpoint of the graphic arts. The task has been undertaken here by Walter Herdeg, with an eye sharpened by many years devoted to the judgement and encouragement of international graphic art and design.
