(Introduction/Translation) 'Images of Everyday Life - The community of graphic designers and photographers in the Netherlands is large. Anyone who picks up a newspaper, a brochure, or other printed material every day, uses stationery, or walks past a wall of posters can attest to this. The combination of designer and photographer is rare.
The phenomenon in which both professions are equally visible is, in a sense, unique. Toon Michiels falls into this category, and therefore there is every reason to present an exhibition of his graphic and photographic work. Although Michiels's list of photo exhibitions is long, an exhibition of his total "ability" has never taken place before. All the more reason! And that's why this presentation devotes considerable space to the graphic products of Michiels the designer.
It will rarely happen that these products are examined for any length of time. In most cases, the designer works for the half-minute the viewer is allowed to spend with the printed material. The message must be clear throughout the journey from page to page, from cover to briefcase, or from wall of posters to brochures. Because that is always the essence of the assignment the designer receives: contribute with your work to getting my message across...'
