(Preface) 'At any time, when confronted with an outstanding work (expression), one is greatly impressed or feels a shock. And then, we would like to know what sort of a person is he who produced such a work, or his way of thinking. In compiling the "Annual of Advertising Art in Japan '85/'86", we aimed to produce an "annual to look at" as well as an "annual to read" by having the artists write short articles on his intentions or aims. The request for a short essay was limited to few works. We hereby would like to express our gratitude to those who cooperated. At the same time, we would also like to thank all those who assisted as in the publication of the '85/'86 edition.
