(Introduction) 'The Institute was founded in 1914, as a formal, cooperative recognition of a common cause among those whose livelihood and manner of expression involve creative work in the graphic arts. It is the oldest and largest organization in the United States devoted to the interests of the creators and users of all the graphic arts-businessmen of many specialties, artists, craftsmen. Craftsmen all, in the products of print: books in all categories-adult, juvenile, textbook and paper-bound; direct and space advertisements; printed sales promotion materials; record album covers; packages and labels; periodicals.

Over the years, AlGA has earned a place of prestige and eminence before the public and government, as well as among professional members of the graphic arts. It is thus able to speak with authority, as the voice of the graphic arts profession.

For its members, AIGA offers a variety of services. They are designed to make it a rich source of information; a meeting place for the exchange of ideas; and a useful training ground-all through a continuing series of exhibits, both in the United States and abroad, designed to record and encourage progress in the graphic arts; analytical seminar discussions devoted to the improvement of quality levels of design and manufacturing procedures; a unique Workshop in hand typesetting and printing design.

AIGA, a non-profit institution, is supported solely by its members. Dues are tax-deductible. Information about membership in the Institute will be sent upon request by writing to The American Institute of Graphic Arts, 1059 Third Avenue, New York 21, New York.'
