(Preface) 'Five hundred copies of this book have been designed and printed by the London College of Printing at the Elephant and Castle. The type is 13pt Ehrhardt, set by David Sinfield. Presswork by Peter Parris and Barry Lambert. The edition has been printed on Huntsman Silk 135gm2.'

(Foreword) 'Unlike the contributors to this book, when I first met Tom Eckersley, I did not know who he was and what he had accomplished. Of course I must have seen his advertisements, but to the brash young LSE economist who sat across the table from him at the Heads of Department meeting at the London College of Printing the name, the work and the reputation were unknown. Thus I saw only the man, but I quickly gained a vision of a kind, gentle, dedicated man with considerable presence.

We only overlapped for a year at the London College of Printing before Tom retired (and then I was privileged to meet another great designer who took his place - FHK Henrion). However, it was clear for all to see that Tom was dedicated to all his students, who in turn responded enthusiastically to his encouragement. The end product was undergraduates of great quality...'
