(Preface) 'In making portraits of friends as a student, I soon found the results spoke as much, or more about my emotions and concerns than it did the person posing. Book 95 makes no pretensions to be a history. Indeed, it is as much an autobiography as it is a book-about-books. Speaking from my experiences is the manner in which I teach.

The Revised and Expanded Edition elaborates my thoughts on the book format. Emphasis is upon trying to clarify how I see a sequence as a different structure from a series. In more than doubling the size of the contents, I was torn between writing a sequel to the first edition, but felt it was important to alter and expand each chapter of Structure of the Visual Book.'
