(Preface) ‘Purpose - This Interim Design Standard sets out the methodology developed so far for the Legible London coordinated wayfinding scheme, in order to inform the iterative design process that now moves from Prototype to trialling in a number of Pilot Locations. The experience and the data gained prior to and during implementation of the West End Prototype, in Oxford Street/Bond Street in November 2007, is collected in this Interim Standard.
Who should use this - This document describes the Legible London approach, the systems that run it and the methods used in developing a coherent London-wide standard of information. It is a technical document for use in the next phase of the process: trialling the scheme in Pilot Locations. Professionals in transport, wayfinding, mapping and graphics will be familiar with the terms and concepts used in this document as applied to their area of expertise, and will be able to use it to ensure that the methodology remains coherent, underpinning the next phase in the iterative development of the scheme. When the Pilot Location projects can lead to publication of the Legible London Design Standard in the form of a Design and Implementation Manual.’
